Barn owl with house in the background
This was pretty much one of the first images I got of the local owls. As you can see, I am in my kitchen watching and triggering the camera remotely. With the patio lights on we can watch the owls hunt along the field margin even in total darkness. When the barn owls catch prey, they tend to fly to the nearest post and perch for a short period. They will either eat their catch there, or fly up into the trees to feed. The patio lights are very bright and light a large area. It doesn't seem to affect the owls, they often perch on the posts for 20-30 minutes at a time before diving into the long grass on unsuspecting prey.
